Kinda funny, the movie that everyone bombed, has an award in the works for the 2005 MTV Awards. Award winning singer and actress Mya is nominated for a 2005 MTV Movie Award in the category of "Best Frightened Performance" for the movie Cursed as the role of Jenny. The MTV Movie Awards film June 4, 2005 in California and will air on MTV June 9, 2005 at 8:30pm ET/PT. Cursed is a Wes Craven horror film about a werewolf in Los Angeles, California and a trail of teenagers and events connected to this werewolf. Mya ‘s role is Jenny, a best friend of Becky (played by Shannon Elizabeth). The two girls go to a carnival, encounter a fortune teller and the rest…well, the rest is why Mya is a nomination for "best frightened performance!"

Mya, who was humbly surprised when learning of her nomination had a few things to say about filming this movie. Although this was her first horror film, she is appreciative that her performance has been deemed riveting enough for a MTV Movie Award Nomination. "I enjoy scary movies, they normally seem funny to me. I’m a big fan of Freddie Krueger & Jason," Mya says while lightly laughing.

For Mya, it was equally as scary filming the movie as it was watching the film. "I was pretty scared when I was filming it, but its even worse on screen…For most of the takes I had to act as if a beast was chasing me (when there was nothing) . In the last scene that we shot there was a man chasing me with a mask, and that was horrible!." Although she had a different view of Wes Craven before she met and filmed with him, she was pleasantly surprised to know her view of a horror film writer/director, and how he was in reality were different. "Wes Craven was soft spoken, reserved and so calm…I did not have a clue…it was really nice to film with someone like that, I was so surprised and so impressed," Mya insists.

Although the official Hollywood premiere of the movie was cancelled, Mya made an extra effort to follow through on her promise to a terminally ill teenager to see the movie for the first time with her, even if it meant traveling to New York City, which she did. Opening day in theaters February 25, 2005 in Manhattan New York, Mya went to see her debut horror film with a 17 year old girl diagnosed with Lymphoma from Pittsburgh. Complete with popcorn candy and drinks, Mya and her new teenage friend both enjoyed seeing the movie for the very first time. They ended their day with a feast and special menu preparations at an upscale restaurant where a spectacular array of sushi was a surprise presentation for the teenager to indulge for the very first time.
