Meschelles Cinderella Man Movie ReviewPosted by:Russell Crowe stars in the story inspired by the life of legendary athlete Jim Braddock, a once-promising light heavyweight boxer forced into retirement after a string of losses in the ring. The stock market crash of 1929, lead Jim Braddock down the road of bad luck. He had a hard time struggling to win fights and put food on the table for his young family.
He accepts a string of dead-end jobs to support his wife, Mae (Renée Zellweger), and their children, while never totally abandoning his dream of boxing again. Eventually Jim's luck began to change. Thanks to a last minute cancellation, Braddock finds himself back in the ring against the second-ranked world contender Corn Griffin. To everyone's amazement, Braddock wins in the third round. After defeating John Henry Lewis, and earning him the nickname Cinderella Man, Braddock faces his toughest challenger in Max Baer (Craig Bierko), the heavyweight champion of the world, renowned for having killed two men in the ring. Cinderella Man is not a pretty movie to watch. It has bloody fight scenes, and a downbeat look of the Depression Era. The film tells a story with startling realism and leaves you exhausted as one of the opponents. Russell Crowe’s performance is sheer magic, a true, and touching picture of a loser who becomes a winner. Renee Zellweger and her portrayal of Mae were just too damned adorable, and it fitted too well in the movie. You see her as this flawless, quite person in everything she do. Zellweger has made Mae huggable-- which is draining for us and it is starting to get redundant. Do not get me wrong Cinderella Man had me on the edge of my seat. I was boxing with Braddock when he was in the ring. You will love this one. Go check it out. 9/10 Review by Meschelle |
