Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Illustrations DocumentaryPosted by:A new show on BRAVO is coming about John Howe. John Howe is an extraordinary artist whose magnificent illustrations inspired Peter Jackson's vision of Middle Earth. Howe, along with Allen Lee, acted as conceptual designers on Jackson's cinematic masterpiece, the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. But Howe's love of Tolkien's brilliant literary work and his marvelous visual interpretation of the renowned author's tome began long ago. John Howe was born and raised in the small rural town of Keremeos, British Columbia, Canada. From childhood, every spare minute was spent drawing. As a youth he emulated the powerful style of Frank Franzetta but upon discovering Tolkien's trilogy, Howe immersed himself in the mythic world of Middle Earth and drew many of the iconic images that have now become world renowned. LORD OF THE BRUSH chronicles John Howe's serendipitous journey, from art college in Strassbourg, to designing the first Tolkien calendars for HarperCollins, to his collaboration on the award-winning Lord of the Rings Trilogy. John's story is brought to life with the help of more than 100 of his beautiful illustrations and music from the Suite for Richard, excerpted from Howard Shore's original motion picture score, performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. Lord of the Brush is the inspirational biography of John Howe, a man whose imagination and talent have taken him around the world and far beyond. Lord of the Brush will air on Bravo, June 19th at 8PM EST. A DVD will also expected to be released, likely a "special edition." Stay tuned for more as we get it.
