Mehs Sin City Movie Review

I avoided going to see Sin City because of the fact that I saw Sky Captain which was done digitally and it just sucked. You could clearly tell that everyone was standing against the blue screen and everything was 1 dimensional. It annoyed me that I wasted my money on the dvd. I went to see Sin City with my buddy because it was the only thing worth watching and boy am  I glad I did. Frank Miller wrote the graphic novel series that inspired the film. The film will comprise three intertwining vignettes revolving around a dark set of characters who call the fictional corrupt town home. The titles that the movie will loosely follow are "The Hard Good Bye" (renamed from simply "Sin City"), "The Big Fat Kill", and "That Yellow Bastard".

The movie is easily the most violent movie I have seen in a very long time.  Robert Rodriguez has brought new meaning to the words "violence in film". All of the stories were great and the best part was how they all interlinked into each other. I have never read Frank Millers work but this was really a great movie with a definite adult theme with plenty of hardcore violence, a smatter of nudity and plenty of visual eye candy.

I really liked each and every actor in this movie. Mickey Rourke proved he is not quite as washed up as people say he is. I think that his scene was by far the very best playing the bad ass "Marv". It was a mix of extreme violence and big laughs. Bruce Willis delivered as the aged cop that just doesnt know when to die or give up. I did not understand the references to him being 60 since he did not look the part, and at the end of the movie he is almost 70 but it just doesnt make any sense.

Jessica Alba and Rosario Dawson also deliver with great characters. Alba was there to play eye candy but to me she did not stand out nearly as much as Rosario did. Their were way to many hot looking ladie to let Alba be the "eye candy focus". Her acting was ok, but the character she played, Nancy, did not really stand out as a stellar character.

Their were so many great characters in this movie it is very hard to tell you about all of them. Michael Madsen played a great crooked cop, Elijah Wood played one of the coolest hit men I have seen in a long time. Benicio Del Toro and Michael Clark Duncan also delivered with great characters that added alot to the story itself. The cast of this entire film was one of the best I have seen in awhile with each one fitting into their roles perfectly and medling into one great story.

Overall the look of Sin City was great, you did not feel you were watching a movie unfold against a blue screen. The stories were well developed and their was plenty of action. It was over 2 hours but it is the first movie I have seen in a very long time where there was not a single second of down time or "ho hum" time.

I give Sin City a 9/10 based mainly on Mickey Rourkes performance, and the great directing, the visual look and the story itself. If you like Quentin Tarantino films you will be a die hard fan of Sin City.
