Steven Alten talks MEG

TV-Guide had the chance to talk to the author of Meg, Steven Alten, about the upcoming movie, directed by Jan de Bont. The book was originally published in 1997 and was followed by two sequels ("The Trench", "Meg: Primal Waters"). And Alten really seems very faithful about the movies main protagonist, a 80-foot-long prehistoric shark.

"Like in the novel, the Megalodon that will be used in the movie will be a ghostly albino, her lack of pigment reflecting her ancestors' existence in the depths of the Mariana Trench. She'll be pretty scarred up and gruesome, with some features that make her unique from her modern-day cousin, the Great White. Most of all, she'll be big. Very big."

The story features a 80-foot-long prehistoric shark -- scientifically known as Carcharodon megalodon and believed by some to be an ancestor of the great white shark -- which terrorizes the California coast. Two men from opposite points of view are forced to come together to neutralize the threat.

The movie is scheduled to come to cinemas July 4th, 2006.
