George Romero talks Land of the Dead and new pic !Posted by:The colleagues from Nocturno had the chance to talk to director George Romero about his upcoming Zombie movie Land of the Dead. Romero also tells us how 9/11 influenced the script and the involvement of John Carpenter in the title change for the movie (remember it should have been called Dead Reckoning?).
Here's a clip from the interview: You once said you could make a zombie movie for each decade as a sort of a commentary. Is that why you initially set Land of the Dead in the Nineties? Well in the beginning I had this conceit between Night and Dawn. In this instance the movie is set roughly three years after the zombie phenomenon has started. Of course, the movies themselves are four decades apart. I like the idea that this is a continuing saga but nothing period-wise, like the cars or clothes, dates them. Yet I like the idea of trying to reflect a little bit about the decade. That’s why I originally set Land in the Nineties because I missed out on them in filmic terms. Is the John Carpenter story true, that the Halloween director forced you to change the title? John did say that yes. But he wasn’t the only one either! Everyone told me Dead Reckoning (the name of the War Wagon sent out to bring back food and supplies) was a lousy title and that it had to be ‘Something’ of the Dead to keep it in line with the trilogy. He’s a great friend and was a real advocate of the movie. He wanted to get involved in producing it, but I just couldn’t get him attached. You can read the whole interview here. Special THX to Carmine for pointing me to this news ! |
