A Lot Like Love Movie Review

Those of you who know me might be wondering what I'm doing over here. Well, this is what I do when I've seen all the horror movies that are out. I watch other stuff. And the other stuff I watched this weeekend is A Lot Like Love. I actually enjoyed this film and I wasn't really expecting to.

I am not usually a Kutcher fan outside of That Seventies Show but he was surprisingly not bad as Oliver. Amanda Peet was as adorable as ever. This film follows the story of Oliver and Emily as they go through seven years of jobs and relationships. They meet in an airplane bathroom en route to New York and hook up Mile-High Club style because Emily has just broken up with her boyfriend. Oliver would like to get to know her better, but Emily is insistant that it won't work out.

They spend a day in New York and go about their lives. Over the next several years, they end up meeting here and there ala When Harry Met Sally. But of course their timing is always off for one reason or another and nothing serious develops. Even if the story is predictable (what romantic comedy isn't) Kutcher and Peet manage to keep us laughing AND interested.

There are several funny scenes as well as the obligatory Awww scenes. I have to admit that I found the ending a trifle anti-climactic, but otherwise it was entertaining. I can definitely say that I have a new respect for the talents of Ashton Kutcher. He may be a good actor, yet. Maven's score: 6/10. Pretty good, but I didn't cry and I ALWAYS cry.
