Sahara Movie Review by CusslerPosted by:I have waited on pins and needles for the release of this movie ever since I read that they were going into production. From the view of a diehard Cussler fan, I was not crazy about the casting choices. The casting was totally wrong. With the exception of Dr. Eva Rojas (Penelope Cruz)any pretty young Spanish woman could have played that part.
Steve Zahn as Al made him look to be the silly sidekick that needed to be saved by the hero of the story which is the exact polar opposite of Al as described by Dr. Cussler. William H. Macy as Adm. Sandecker give me a break, The Admiral is a chisled in stone tough as nails former navy officer, Mr.Macy really can't pull it off. I would been more convinced if they had cast Peewee Herman. Although my reservations about Dirk Pitt were not as bad as I had feared, Matthew McConaughey did a respectable job as Dirk Pitt. Now to the movie itself, to those who have never read the books it is just a okay big budget adventure movie, but to those of us who have read the book I can't help but wonder why they need to mess with the story line. They took the basic idea of the book, about 25 to 30% and either rearranged it or created a whole new story to fill the gaps. All in all I give it 3.5 stars of 5 just because it was a good looking well made movie but the casting was poor and they messed with the story to much. Review by Sad-Cussler-Fan
