Exclusive: Zombie Flick Hide & Creep Director Speaks!

Posted by:
Had a chance to catch up with the director of Hide & Creep and he is a cool guy and was able to share some insights on his film with us. For those of you who dont know what I am talking about I strongly suggest you interrupt this news and go watch the Hide & Creep Trailer Chance is going to send us some nice pretty pics later today for the gallery, but the trailer is great stuff and well worth watching. So with that done here is what Chance had to say about the film :

HIDE AND CREEP is "a movie about zombies and other threats to national security." The out-of-pocket budget (out-of-credit-card, actually) was approx. $24,000.  That doesn't include deferred payments to various cast and crew members, who were kind enough to show up and work without getting paid up front.

The movie is set in the small town of Thorsby, Alabama, and we shot at various Alabama locations, some actually in the real town of Thorsby. We shot HIDE AND CREEP on Super 16mm film (viva film!).

There were a couple of inspirations for HIDE AND CREEP.  The main one was a three-minute short movie co-director Chuck Hartsell and I made called BIRTHDAY CALL, about two brothers trying to call an out-of-town friend on the phone while fighting zombies in their basement.  HIDE AND CREEP has a similar comedic tone to CALL.  We were also inspired by PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE.  We thought people were wasting their time remaking good movies.

Why not try to remake a "bad" one?  Not that HIDE AND CREEP is really a PLAN 9 remake.  But we did get a couple of plot ideas from Ed Wood's opus. Anyone who makes a zombie movie these days and doesn't see Romero as an influence is delusional.  Romero defined the modern zombie genre with NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and then perfected it with DAWN OF THE DEAD.

We actually used "classic" zombie makeup (pale skin, dark circles around the eyes) in our movie, a la the look of the NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD zombies

Stay tuned for more on this great film as we get it. We will be reviewing this film on the site soon so look for that as well!   In the sleepy town of Thorsby, Alabama, no one had a life. Then the dead showed up. Now instead of just killing time the people of Thorsby are killing each other, taking up arms as the zombies take to the streets, the barbecue joints and the strip bars. Soon spaceships are flying overhead, federal agents are patrolling the grounds and a few fearless individuals are joining forces to run like hell.
