McDarthy's Undead Movie ReviewPosted by:I just saw this film over the weekend, and I feel the need to tell Lions Gate that just because they are an indy film company, doesn't mean their horror films need to be shitty. I'm pretty sure that this was a first strike from Australia, with a larger invasion force following. The first thing I'd like to talk about: if you're going to have a zombie film, you at least need to have more than 25 minutes of zombie action in a two-hour film. About zombies. That's like having Superman be in ten minutes of a Superman film. Going to the bathroom. The TWO zombie shootout scenes I did enjoy. They were well-done and, except for the characters sudden and sporatic bouts of paralysis, held the tension pretty well. The characters are not worth mentioning. The only twist I did like, and its not even a twist and more of a Coincidencial Character Trait Due To Non-Continuity Within The Story, is that the badass who the town thinks is crazy.... we find out is. Once again, this is uninentional and only due to the story being a crock of shat. But it gives him depth. Unintentionally. The rest of the characters are as such: the female that finds herself through zombie slaying, the uptight cop (that says fuck every five seconds, another cliche), his scaredy cat partner, the two teenage lovers. All of these characters are given a small amount of pre-zombie town screentime, and these small scenes are actually interesting. It's just when our heroine slices her first zombie in half with The Club that it falls apart (you heard me, The Club). That's very early on in the film, by the way. You just don't care about any of these characters because they only have lines, not meaning. The huge twist that sets this thing apart from all other zombie films? It takes up the entire second act, most of the third, and is boring and stupid. Oh, and it is never REALLY EXPLAINED. It is just so ludicrous that you will be in shock. It is the one thing that you DON'T do in zombie films, and it has been done. Although, the final twist near the end is a quite ingenious one, but once again, it only works because of plot holes from earlier on. Don't see this film. It has few redeeming qualities, and even those are not worth the money. I'm just glad I saw it for free. 2/10 2 for a Zombie Fish Fight, and nice Zombie effects and fights Review by McDarthy. If you would like to discuss it you can post here
