Dare Devil Movie Review

I can remember about a year before this movie came out. I was really pumped to see it. I am an avid reader of comics and Daredevil is one of my favorite. So as you can imagine this movie was at the top of my list.

I went to the see the midnight showing on Feb. 13.. Yes I remember the date because this was at the time the biggest opening movie for Valentines weekend until that horrible movie 50 First Dates came out.

Anyway from the moment the movie started til the lights came on my eyes were glued to the silver screen. I was blown away. I, as a comic fan, loved this movie. It is one of the only comic films, other than Spider Man, to almost follow the comics completely, besides a few minor things.

The story basically starts out with DD telling how he became what he is today. The main driving force for DD is that  his father was murdered by Kingpin. He goes on to meet Elektra a beautiful woman with a rich father. Unfortunately her father works for Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin. Well from their things start to liven up and Bullseye steps on the scene and its all chaos from there on out.

A major complaint I heard from several people was that this film was to dark. OK tell you what go out and pick up a Daredevil comic and read it. There dark stories about a blind lawyer who has to deal with being beaten up all the time. Another thing people have to keep in mind is that these are comic book characters, so everything that seems extreme is supposed to. They aren't like you and I. Thats why they are called super heroes.

The story is loosely based off of issue 181, The Death of Elektra. This was a Frank Miller written story and the movie shows that. I think the movie was going for the a modern day retelling of that issue. Making Kingpin black, giving Bullseye and Elektra an updated costume is what gave it that updated look.

Another thing abot this movie that I enjoyed as a comic reader was all the little nods to the men who made DD who he is. Several creators names were dropped and some even appeared in the movie ie Kevin Smith and Frank Miller.

Overall one of my favorite comic movies. For awhile it was my favorite but then along came X2... but thats a review for another time. If I had to rate this movie it would be a 9 out of 10.
