Imaginary Heroes opens March 18th in Canada

Our Friends at Sony & Mongrel Media have let us know that Imaginary Heroes is coming to Canada March 18th. The movie is the directorial debut for Xmen 2 writer Dan Harris.  Sigourney Weaver, Jeff Daniels, Emile Hirsch (upcoming Lords of Dogtown) and Michelle Williams (TV’s Dawson’s Creek) star in Imaginary Heroes, a heartbreaking portrait of a family in the year following a shocking tragedy.  In this family, nothing is as it seems.

The film marks the directorial debut of American Dan Harris (co-writer of X2: X-Men United, and the upcoming Superman Returns and Ender’s Game) from his screenplay, which he wrote while just 22 (he’s now 25).

Evoking salty laughter and tears, the story begins when the oldest son,an Olympic swimming hopeful, commits suicide.  Mom (Weaver), a child  of the ’60s, turns to her pot-smoking past.  But why is she at odds with her next-door neighbor?  Dad opts for prescription pills and heads off to work  each day.  But where is he really spending his time?  The only daughter (Williams) has fled to college.  The younger son (Hirsch), who always felt in his brother’s shadow, tries to cope.  But why does he have bruises  on his back?  And why is he spending so much time with his best friend?

As dark secrets are revealed, it becomes obvious that this middle-class family must confront its past before it can begin to face the future.

The soundtrack is distributed in Canada by Warner Music. Imaginary Heroes is being released in Canada by Mongrel Media.
