Hakeem's Guide to the March 11th Weekend

Posted by:
Back again, Hakeem brings us his popular weekend guide to the movies and what you should be watching. This is what's coming out in the US this weekend and the number of theatres it will be playing in.

Robots - 3,776
Hostage- 2,123
The Passion Recut - 952 (Rerelease)
Downfall - 46 (Expanding)
The Upside of Anger - 9
Millions - 5

Robots:
this is going to make lots of money, but is a creative failure from the people at Fox. Comedy and story are great, Robin Williams owns, but the magic that Pixar and Dreamworks give us is not there. Also, a huge cast wasted in one line characters that go unrecognized.
My Robots Review

Hostage:
Die Hard meets Panic Room? looks like it. Still, Bruce Willis is back in what he does best and that's good news. Could be good. You can read Park's review where he gives it a 4 out of 5 stars, Hostage Review

The Passion of the Christ Recut:
Mel Gibson took gore out of his religious masterpiece to make those who didn't see it last year because of the explicit violence can go now. Doesn't matter if you believe in God or not, this movie deserves to be seen.

Downfall:
this German movie, didn't win the Oscar for Best Foreign Picture a few weeks ago (can't compare with The Sea Inside, haven't seen it), but maybe it should have. Is the story of the last days of Hitler and the people around him, what they did, how Hitler treated them and how they treated him. With powerful performances by this huge German cast. My Review: Coming Soon, you can read Trenchers Downfall Movie Review

The Upside of Anger:
I'm starting the early Oscar buzz for next year nominating Joan Allen for Best Actress. She owns this movie from start to finish. Amazing performance. Kevin Costner costars with a great performance though more comedic that dramatic. And then the young girls Alicia Witt, Erika Christensen, Keri Russell and the so beautiful Evan Rachel Wood. All of them also give very good supporting performances.
My Review: Coming Soon

Millions:
Danny Boyle's follow up to the great 28 Days Later is different to his previous work. Very different, and for me dissapointing.
Still, a great story and some awesome scenes with the Danny Boyle trademark of filmmaking.
