Howdy. My name is Blake Eckard and I just read your interview with Josh Becker (sadly, one of the most overlooked independent filmmakers today). Josh is a real kick and actually someone that has something to say. Any news on the man and his work is most welcome.
Another indie "God" is Mr. Jon Jost (All the Vermeers in New York, Sure Fire, Last Chants For A Slow Dance, etc.) He just finished making a new film (which I rolled a little sound for) called "Homecoming." I think it's his 20th film or something like that. It just played at both the Venice and Rotterdam film festivals and is quite an upsetting, yet quietly moving picture. And I think I must shamelessly include some notes about myself...
I'm gearing up to shoot what will be my fourth self-financed feature film. It's called "Sinner Come Home," and cameras roll in three weeks. It's a rural drama with religious undertones.
My first feature, "A Simple Midwest Story," was shot when I was 18 and flunking out of high school. It was eventually selected to run at the Anthology Film Archives in New York as part of their New Filmmaker's showcase.
My other two films include an ongoing feature documentary about Bigfoot hunters and a rough, backwater drama shot this past August which I will begin editing immediately after shooting my upcoming film. All these films have been made for very little money and (excluding my first film) have all been shot on 16mm...Something that's quickly becoming more and more rare in this current video revolution, a format I frankly feel is no where near the quality of motion picture film.
Anyway, thank you for the time. Keep up what you're doing.
