As part of Dimensions purging of their movie vaults, "Ritual" has finally gotten a release date. Thanks to IMDB for this bit of trivia, but is seemed that "Ritual" was:
"Originally intended to be produced by Universal as the third installment of a trilogy of Tales From The Crypt movies but plans were scrapped after Bordello of Blood bombed in theaters. Then Marimax purchased the rights from Universal and removed all references to the Tales From The Crypt franchise so that it could be released as a stand alone movie."
Inspired from the Jacques Tourneur's 1943 classic "I Walked with a Zombie," Ritual is about:
"A nurse who is s hired by a wealthy man who fears that his catatonic wife was driven insane by his rotten ways. Locals, however, believe that she is the victim of a voodoo curse - one of the walking dead. The pair fall in love, but cannot marry as long as the wife is still alive. Racked by guilt and drinking, however, the man begins to fall apart emotionally and physically. It's then up to the nurse to try to shock the wife back into the real world by bringing her to a secret voodoo ceremony."
Starring Jennifer Grey, Craig Sheffer, and Tim Curry and directed by Avi Nesher, Ritual is scheduled to be released (I bet on DVD) on September 2, 2005.
