Hakeem's Guide for the Feb 11th WeekendPosted by:Hakeem our resident movie guru and critic is back again this weekend with the guide to what to watch and what not to watch. He hasnt got any reviews for these films yet but I am sure we will beat a review for Ong Bak out of him for all you readers. Without further ado lets start with whats playing and in how many theatres and get right into his guide.
Movies Playing this Weekend and the # of Theatres Hitch: Will Smith in a romantic comedy in Valentine's Day. What a coincidence!. But really, the previews with Will Smith and Kevin James are good. And it has hottie Eva Mendes as Will's romantic interest. I've heard great stuff about this one and the only big movie coming out so I'd say it's a safe bet for a good movie, Pooh's Heffalump Movie: for the kids. Know nothing about it besides that they're introducing this Heffalump character. I though Pooh was kinda dying right now with Spongebob being hugely more popular and better. Maybe that's why they're maing this movie. Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior: Kind of like those old Jackie Chan movies only that this Toni Jaa guy doesn't have the comedic talent Jackie has (not counting his latest American tries). Great fights here but I don't know if the whole 'no stunts used, real fights' was really nessesary, I wouldn't have noticed if they wouldn't have said that. The fights in Beautiful Boxer (another Thai film releasad a few weeks ago) were great too only shorter. Also, the story here was not great (again, a much better one in Beautiful Boxer), and the bad guy here was a joke. Despite all that, the fights make this worth watching. Uncle Nino: a sweet little movie about an old Italian guy going to America to visit his family (lead by Joe Mantegna and Anne Archer) seeking redemption for his relation with his now deseased brother (Mantegna's father). Ok acting and an old story make for a good and safe family movie when everybody ends changed for good and happy. So, What to Watch:
