Dirty Pretty Things Review

My wife picked this movie out the other day at the local blockbuster. She got it on a whim from reading the back, which I never had a chance to see myself. Being the softy I am when it comes to my wife, we rented it.

This is a rather depressing look into the lives of illegal immigrants and the things they must do in order to survive. It explores the evil and demented things some people do in order to increase their personal gains from both sides. while it tells the story very slowly and you don’t find everything out till the end it is very intriguing and kept me quite interested the entire time.

The story revolves around an African man and a Turkish women living, actually surviving, in modern London. Both characters are very mysterious and you learn bits about them throughout the movie, which adds to the suspense. It also explores the relationship the two of them build through leading similar lives and experiences. It shows how they actually escape the situations life has lead them too.

The acting was fantastic. They used people from all over the world (the lead role is played by an African actor) which really makes you believe these people and added to the movies believability. There are 6 main characters who all do an excellent job portraying the parts. A few of these characters make some great friendships. The movie really made me think about the lifestyle some people are forced to live. the movie opens up the horrific things some people do in this world to gain money for themselves, or just survive in it.

Extras include a very small making of clip about 10mins long.

Anywho, I enjoyed this movie. It made me think about how lucky I am.
