Wild Zero Zombie Review by RetroPosted by:There are so many good things about Wild Zero it's hard to know where to begin. Guitar Wolf (a real life rock n roll band, whose members take their names from their instruments, Guitar Wolf, Bass Wolf and Drum Wolf) take us on a journey from Tarantino-esque ultra-violence, to tender heartfelt romance, throw in some zombies, some flying-saucers, some laughs, and moments of pure Japanese cuteness and you're nearing perfection. Wild Zero is like a comic book come to life. The story follows Ace, a Guitar Wolf groupie, as he follows his idols from gig to gig. Along the way Ace falls in love with a girl named Tobio, some travelers have an encounter with zombies, Guitar Wolf are pursued by a vengeful promoter and it all comes to a head at a female weapons dealers wearhouse. There are some truley outstanding moments in this film. Guitar Wolf(the man) with a guitar constantly over his shoulder and either a pistol or beer in his hand, also has some supernatural powers. What does he do when out of ammo and a hoard of zombies surround a good looking woman? Strike a pose, yell "Rock and Roll" and start throwing energised guitar picks of course. The soundtrack is brilliant, almost a who's who of rock and roll, from the 60s surf guitar of Dick Dale to the modern sounds of grrl band The Donnas(not sure about that, sounds like them), and, of course, Guitar Wolf themselves. It almost never lets up. And if you don't think this sounds like the movie for you, try the drinking game: Every time flame shoots out of something(motorbike, car, microphone) someone takes a drink themselves, yells "Rock and Roll" or combs their hair, have one yourself, then maybe you will see the brilliance that is Wild Zero. Editors Note: Thanks to retro for such a fantastic film review. You can discuss this with Retro on the boards here
