Batman Begins: An Inside Look!

Now this is very cool. We've all seen Batman's new ride and how what Batman's new suit will look like - but was just looking at a pic good enough for you? For me, I always want to know more, and that's what IGN Filmforce has given us. We now get an inside look into the Dark Knights ride and suit, learn about the specs, and how it all came out. This is an excellent read, and a must for Bat fans.. so sit back while I pull a couple of the highlights for you.

The Batmobile

Not based on any production vehicles, the designers say the look and feel falls somewhere between a Lamborghini and a Hummer.

They didn't want to build a car that would only "appear" to go fast using camera tricks. This car had to go fast and maneuver. Don't read this if you are from the Chicago PD, but they had it up to 90 mph on the Chicago streets. There is no over-cranking. When it looks like it's going fast on film, it is.

This is the fifth incarnation of their design.

Built entirely from the ground up. There was no other car used for reference. The only stock material are components.

It's got aerodynamic flaps that, within the story, allow it to jump small distances.

They've had it up to 110 mph, but it could likely go much faster.

The Batsuit

The suit is said be be much more back to basics. It has evolved from various storylines and key moments in Wayne's life. It's meant to look more like it was made from found elements. It's bound to the story and makes sense within that context.

Everything in this suit has been specifically tailored to be like a military-type garment. Each element has a purpose and an application.

The first time we see the costume is on display in a case. We briefly see Bruce spraying it down, which explains the black look of the costume.

The cape material is the same as material used to stop vision machines from seeing them when it's dark. This is the reason he is not covered in shiny rubber. It works great with the wind effects.
