Posted by:
Hakeem is back, the local resident movie review guru. Once again it is time for the Must see Movie Guide for the Weekend. So without further ado lets git this ship a rocking! With the weekend coming, it is time to let you know whats playing, and whats worth seeing. Or at least as far as Hakeem sees it. To kick things off lets start with what is hitting theatres, and in how many theatres it is hitting. See list below:

Movies now Playing, and # of Theatres playing in.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Are We There Yet? - 2,709
Assault on Precinct 13 - 2,297
The Phantom of the Opera - 1,511 (Expanding)
Sideways - 699 (Expanding)
Hotel Rwanda - 319 (Expanding)

Are we There Yet?: Thise movie brings nothing new to the genre, except that this is for black people. It's the typical story of a guy trying to get a girl by doing something for her. In Ice Cube's case, take her kids from Portland to Vancouver. Of course, Ice Cube's Nick totally hates kids, and knowing how they are, he still takes them on the trip in his brand new Cadillac Escalade that as we see in the commercial, is going to suffer. And we see pretty much everything in the commercial. All the good laughs are there.
At the end of course, they all love each other and they'll live happy forever.

Assault on Precinct 13: haven't seen it yet, and the commercial was not bad but is wasn't great either. And word about the movie goes from really bad to good with great action. I'd give it a try. Plus the cast is good I'd say with Ethan Hawk, Lawrence Fishburn, Drea DeMatteo, Maria Bello, and (ok, not so good) Ja Rule.

The Phantom of the Opera: same as last week, haven't seen it yet, it doesn't look good and it the word hasn't been positive either despite the movie being nominated for a golden globe. ( read phantom of the opera review )

Sideways: All the praise is deserved. Excellent movie. ( read sideways movie review )

Hotel Rwanda: This one is been getting lots and lots of positive reviews. It could be the surprise at the Oscars. ( read hotel rwanda review )
