Third Annual Rondo Hatton Classic Awards

Posted by:
Voting for the Third Annual Rondo Hatton Classic Awards, recognizing the best work in classic horror research, creativity and film preservation from 2004, will begin on Friday, January 14, 2005 at 10 p.m. ET.

The Rondos are the voice of the classic horror electorate, aimed at recognizing work by fans or pros that advances the cause of horror scholarship, appreciation and fun.

The awards are by fans, for fans, and are not affiliated with any commercial venture or organization. Every Rondo winner -- and the nominees -- is being recognized for a significant achievement in the genre we all love so much.

The first two years have been wonderful successes. Last year, 664 people voted, which was the largest online survey of classic horror fans in history.

We hope this year's awards will have just as positive an impact on all the winners, nominees, voters and fandom as a whole. These awards are about the work we all do to keep the monsters, and the creators behind them, alive and well.

Official ballots with nominees in 20 categories will be posted here at the Rondo website, at the Classic Horror Film Board
(classichorrofilmboard.com), and at several horror websites beginning Jan. 14. That's next Friday night at 10 p.m. ET.

All voting is by email only to
taraco@aol.com.

Voting will end at midnight, the night of Saturday, Feb. 18, 2005. Winners will be announced the following night (Sunday, Feb. 19).

Write-ins are accepted. While friends and all horror fans are encouraged to turn out for their favorites, we will continue to strongly discourage any organized voting efforts, including multiple blind votes or electronic duplicates. Every email must include a full name to help control stuffed ballots. So far we've had only minor problems like that.

Any voter who cares to include their street address will be mailed a nifty "I voted" Rondo button asan appreciation.

All votes are kept strictly confidential and will be tallied by David Colton (
taraco@aol.com), organizer of the awards. No email addresses or any personal information will ever be shared with anyone.

Some winners will receive Rondo statuettes sculpted by Kerry Gammill (monsterkid.com), and cast by Tim M. Lindsey(tmlindsey.com). These are each individually made and every recipient thus far has realized the love and care that goes into these beautiful objects.

The voting for the Third Annual Rondos are about to begin. So if you have a favorite website of 2004, a magazine, book, writer or garage kit, or a restored film on DVD you'd like to see honored, this is where you can do it.

The countdown has begun: Check here next Friday night for your official ballot!! And thanx to all who take the time to vote.
