Without a Paddle, Paddles onto DVD Jan 11thPosted by:Without a Paddle is about 4 young boys that grow up together and share a life long bond that leads them to the main plot of the film. When the boys grow up, they all go different directions but remain friends in spite of their separate lives. When one of the boys dies in an accident, the other three attend his funeral and decide to fulfill a boyhood pact in his honor. The boys had made a blood promise to find a lost treasure deep in the Oregon woods and their journey takes them into some bizarre and hilarious situations. Why You Should See This Movie: The movie does a pretty good job at accomplishing it's goal to be a comedy with life lessons weaved throughout. The acting by the three guys is pretty great, with each of them creating distinct characters that have quirky traits. The movie is pretty entertaining for the majority of the film, but tends to drag especially towards the end. Why You Shouldn't See This Movie: This film could have been much better had they decided to concentrate the story a bit. With a running time close to two hours, keeping the laughs rolling until the end is asking a bit much. There were quite a few absolutely hilarious scenes, but the momentum slowed too much when the storytelling became too intricate. Comedies should be more about laughs and less about story, and this film got too much into the plot especially towards the end. Conclusion: Without a Paddle is a decent comedy with quite a few laughs that could have been great had the editors done a little more cutting to shorten the story. Column by Fikus
