Mel Brooks The Producers Remake ComingPosted by:Does anyone remember the '70's film 'The Producers' (Zero Mostley, Gene Wilder, also a musical currently with Lee Evans in the titular role?), which was written and directed by Mel Brooks? Well, Mr. Brooks is currently remaking the film, with the all-star former musical cast including Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, and new additions like Nicole Kidman, in the role of the Producers flirtatious Swedish receptionist.
For those of you who don't know the plot, it involves a producer named Max Bialystock, who is so down on his luck he relies on little old ladies to fund his plays, and a cardboard belt to hold up his trousers. Then he meets a timid accountant who only comes to check his accounts, but discovers that Bialystock has been accidentaly theiving money by taking a lot of money for his plays, only using a little bit of it, and not given the rest back (no-one asked for it back, the plays were so bad no-one wants ties with it), and the two of them decide that the scheme could be used on a big level to make.... billions! So they find a hideously offensive play and a camp cod director to utterly ruin Broadway, and make them rich. That is the Producers, a fantastic musical which left a huge impression on me after I saw it. Let's hope Brooks can make the same impression as last time! source Edward Francis, 13
