Exclusive: Pirates of the Caribbean 2, Hawaii Rumor

Aloha, We are told that Hawaii is still in the running for Pirates of the  Caribbean 2, but nothing is definite. I called the "Our Lucaya" resort on Grand Bahama and tried to book 4  separate rooms for different dates in December2004, January and  February 2005 - all the rooms were available on all the dates  submitted. So the hotel is not fully booked by any means according to  your source Hugo. Also, the movie is to be shot in a harbor and not  on a deserted island.

For those of you who did not read our original scoop from Hugo, basically Hugo's information was that the hotel was filling up fast, and that it was being used for cast and crew of Pirates of the Caribbean 2. When the Pirates of the Caribbean scouts were here in Hawaii in September looking for locations,  they spent quite some time on the Big Island of Hawaii checking out  an isolated harbor. Ideal for battle scenes.

We still feel Hawaii is a strong contender for the location as the State of Hawaii gives plenty of tax breaks to film companies, making  it cheaper to shoot in Hawaii than California. The Bahamas has a  logistics problem as everyone and everything would have to be flown  in from Florida - quite an expense. Whereas, Hawaii has its own film
studio and plenty of experienced local crew to draw on. Only the  principal actors would need to be flown in. However, this could all be wrong. We'll just have to wait and see.
