5 Valentines Day Movies For Romantics

Posted by: Michael

I am not a big fan of Valentines day since I love my sweetie every day of the year and don’t need a commercial event to tell me to love her more and spend gobs of money on flowers, chocolates and cards. Admittedly I do the chocolates and the candies but I also will be doing the Valentines Day movies. So here are 5 Valentines Day Movies for Romantics that you should consider checking out.

It is worth noting I do not consider myself a romantic and my typical film fare includes Terminator, Avatar and Mystery Men not romance novels and fluffy romantic movies. So when I say I enjoyed these movies and consider them worth watching hopefully you will feel safe in enjoying them if your a redblooded male like me. This is 5 films for romantics that men and women can enjoy together! ( So long as you dont mind tearing up a bit )

The Notebook: The notebook is the definition of romance. Its heart wrenching and beautiful while also being extremely tragic. Starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams it tells the story of a poor and passionate young man falls in love with a rich young woman and gives her a sense of freedom. They soon are separated by their social differences and this film chronicles their love, their lives and most importantly their loss. A truly moving film that will make your heart warm and also make you tear up.

Jerry Maguire: I am not a fan of Tom Cruise. When I look at him I do not see his character he is playing I see who he is in the press and it is far to distracting. What he does with his life is not my business but when it makes it hard for me to focus on him as an actor its tough. Jerry Maguire stars Tom Cruise and Renee Zellwegger who I also am not a fan of. Despite this I loved Jerry Maguire. The story of a sports agent who goes it alone its ripe with romantic one liners and the clear on screen connection between  Renee Zellwegger and Tom Cruise make this one of the funniest and warmest romantic comedy to see on Valentines Day. Funny, romantic and warm Jerry Maguire is a movie you will find it hard not to enjoy.

Ghost: When I think Patrick Swayze I think Road House. It was the first movie of his that I saw and the role fit him to a T. Its also typically the genre I gravitated to as a young man. That said GHOST starring Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore is another fine example of Patrick Swayes immense talent. Part dark thriller, part crime tale and all romantic love story GHOST is a definining movie of love that everyone can enjoy.  Ghost tells the story of a man who is murdered and doesn’t cross over and tries to connect with his wife who is left behind and is very much in danger. Ghost is both funny and disturbing as well as incredibly romantic. A tragic story of romance, danger and death Ghost is a fantastic movie that offers lots of things for lots of tastes.

Titanic: I saw Titanic in theatres with a female friend of mine and what an experience it was. To have to suck it up and try not to ball my eyes out at the end of this movie was a tough one. Its one thing for me to have a tear or two during a romantic but tragic film when I am with a girlfriend but when its just a female friend I still felt the need to keep up appearances of a macho guy and this movie pushed on the heart strings.

Starring Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet and directed by James Cameron it is the most epic and moving tale of love and human tragedy ever made. James Cameron proved why he is one of the greatest filmmakers of our time and also showed that he can do much more then send machines back through time to destroy mankind. Combine the fact its based on the Titanic one of the greatest tragedies in human history and you have a really moving experience.

When Harry Met Sally:  Starring Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal this is easily one of the funniest and most charming movies you can watch on Valentines Day. It asks the age old question can friends have sex and still be friends? The film follows the lives of the two lead characters Meg and Billy as they fall in and out of love with other people and continue to bump into each other as they live life and have love lost.

Directed by Rob Reiner it really is a character film with emphasis on great writing, believable characters and a love story that makes you smile and laugh out loud. Easily one of the funniest and charming movies you can possibly choose to watch on Valentines day.
