Avatar Breaks World Box Office Record

This comes as really no shock but Avatar has just broken the world wide box office record having crossed the $1.292 billion dollar mark as of Sunday according to the Hollywood Reporter. Titanic another film done by James Cameron had held the record at $1.242billion and I am sure Cameron takes alot of pride from not just setting the record with Titanic but then beating it with Avatar.

It is worth noting however that 3D ticket prices helped Avatar to climb to #1 in such record timing and if you actually account for inflation Gone With The Wind is still the #1 movie. If we look at actual ticket sales vs Box Office it even gets muddier as John Campea points out Star Wars sold more TICKETS then Avatar. That said... the numbers are what they are and Avatar is the first to hit $1.29 billion breaking the old record by $50million.
