Avatar 2 Will Make More Money than Avatar, Here's why!

Jim one of our readers commented on an early news item that really got my brain churning and I realized something. James Cameron is not going to be the only driving force for AVATAR 2. The studio will be clamoring for it as well simply because of dollars and cents. Avatar 2 can potentially make FOX a larger profit because of the ground work laid by AVATAR.

AVATAR has broken a crap load of records and made over $1billion dollars but we have to remember it cost $500million to make. The thing that Avatar 2 has going for it is that James Cameron does not have to create a new 3D experience.. he already has it.  In an interview with EW James Cameron brought this up himself making the point it would be a waste to not make Avatar 2; ( and to make him an ass load richer although he left that part off )

“I’ve had a storyline in mind from the start — there are even scenes in Avatar that I kept in because they lead to the sequel,” Cameron says. “It just makes sense to think of it as a two or three film arc, in terms of the business plan.

The CG plants and trees and creatures and the musculo-skeletal rigging of the main characters — that all takes an enormous amount of time to create. It’d be a waste not to use it again.” Sam Worthington is already signed to play Jake Sully again, and he e-mailed EW some plot suggestions for the sequel: “Jake should have abused his avatar and be fat and unfit and demand Neyteri to get him a beer.”

This means that fans of Avatar can get the same experience and FOX and Cameron don't have to spend the huge money or time in production creating the base technology. So even if Avatar 2 doesn't make $1billion if Cameron and his team can make the film for $200-$300million it can still potentially make far more money for the studio since it will be alot cheaper to make.

Now if you know Cameron at all you know he is not likely to go the old has route. Just look at his comments about being a potential director for the Spider Man reboot. He doesn't do sloppy seconds and he ALWAYS wants to re-invent film making. So its very likely AVATAR 2 could also have an insane budget but either way they should be able to cut some production corners without impacting the final stunning product!
