Vincent Guastini Announces New Projects

Posted by: MacReady

THX to Vincent Guastini Productions we are able to give you a look at the exciting new projects that they have worked on for the last couple of years as well as some planned new ones for the coming year, that are in various stages of production and development, which also includes some independent films making their premiere debuts around the country.

NottinghamIncluded in this news are first hand looks at some designs and effects that Vincent and his studio have produced in 2008 & 2009, including make-up tests for the feature "I Am Legend", and an unused Alien from JJ Abrams "Star Trek". Also included are designs for Kevin Smith’s "Green Hornet", and the "The Fly" remake which originally had director Todd Lincoln attached. And some back ground bodies for Ridley Scott’s "Nottingham", which you can see to the left. Other past work V.G.P. has done work development wise, has been for Aronofsky’s "Watchmen" and "Below". We'll come back to "I Am Legend", "Star Trek", "Green Hornet" and the "The Fly" remake at the end of this news.

As far as new projects VGP is very excited about starting development for "Fistful of Blood" produced by Kevin Eastman, the man who created "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", and owner of Heavy Metal Magazine. "Fistful of Blood" will be directed by Music video director Digger T. Mesh who owned and operated Art Asylum, the toy company with properties licensed from Marvel Entertainment, Lucasfilm, Warner Brothers, Clive Barker and Paramount’s Star Trek.

Regarding the effects for "Fistful of Blood", Vincent says “Were going all out on everything, no holds barred type live action effects. Digger is going wild, there’s no better guy born to direct this then Digger, and were having a blast coming up with the stuff, under his guidance and leadership. The project is close to my heart because I’ll have the chance to work with a legend like Kevin Eastman, and that is nothing short then a huge honor. I can’t wait to be creating full blown zombies, vampires, and all kinds of crazy stuff. Think Evil Dead meets Tombstone and you’ll get a small taste of what Digger has in mind. With Kevin’s and Diggers involvement, it’s going to be one hell of a movie!” Pictured is a make-up concept prototype for one of the zombie creatures that occupies this "Vampire Western".

Other projects include a “mysterious TV series” for "Animal Planet" produced by City of Angles & Three Kings producer Doug Segal, which at this time is highly secretive. The 2nd season airs in October, which will include Werewolves, Vampire creature suits and a diseased female astronaut who slowly transforms into a cocoon, only to give birth when her stomach bursts open to a Mimic type space bug.

They also recreated several urban legend type monsters for this show, including the Massachusetts Dover Demon, and the most famous Legend on the East Coast, The New Jersey Devil. For the short amount of prep time to produce this show, they achieved the impossible.

Other new projects that V.G.P. as done effects for  and is reported to have some never before seen effects  Are,  "Neighbor", which will have its world premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal Canada, and the upcoming "Audie and the Wolf" which has garnered amazing reviews at film festivals around the country. Also another monster fest of note is the upcoming monster movie "Pig People" stars Rap Stars Lil Romeo and his real life father Master P, playing one of the “pig monsters.”  Make-up effects duties were extensive on this highly ambitious project. "I went real broad for the look of the monsters. And I think we got a great looking bunch of creatures for the time and budget.”

Vincent’s has a soft spot for the film "Audie and the Wolf", an upcoming film making the rounds at film festivals and still seeking domestic distribution.

“Audie was a fun little movie that I am so glad I did. The effects are very graphic and real, and the film is filled with fun “in-jokes” and real scares, I’m such a fan of it. It was directed by the very talented B. Scott O’Malley, whom I have a great respect for, but the film did not go without its hitches. The film is about a real wolf that turns into man, and they were afraid in one critical scene, that the character would get lost under the makeup, so my Werewolf was cut out. They thought the creature would be better suited to a remake of Curse of the Werewolf or The Wolf Man, The director still wonders if he did the right thing, but I seem to think he did. The scene was about the characters, not showing off make-up effects.”

“"Neighbor" is another film which will be iconic in its debut, and will make the audience feel very uncomfortable. This film is strictly for a strong stomach and VGP is already getting kudos for doing some never before seen effects. It’s very gory but has a story that is quite original. Unlike the recent trend of gore movies, Neighbor has a female lead character, which is a new and exciting twist to the graphic horror movie genre.”

"The Beacon" is a ghost story with some amazing effects, all of which cannot yet be revealed, but a fraction of them can be seen in these exclusive photos. “It has some of the strongest prosthetic character design work VGP has done." It stars Michael Ironside ("Terminator Salvation") and Terri Polo ("Meet the Parents")

Other projects in the works include a fantasy movie with one of the people who were behind the making of "Requiem for Dream", that he cannot give any details about that will hopefully be the ULTIMATE Fantasy Movie. More in the vein of Ridley Scott’s "Legend", combined with "300", Fantasy and Vampire films are still going strong, several of which VGP is involved with.

Vincent concludes look to be another very busy year coming up. "I have not stopped since December and have had only two weeks off, and even with the two weeks on my hands I already want to sink my teeth in a real epic or three or four! So look out, V.G.P. is coming out swinging!”

And now for the images we told you about in the beginning of this news. To start off we have a pic from the make-up tests from "I Am Legend", and an unused Alien from JJ Abrams "Star Trek".
