Sam Raimi Directing Warcraft MoviePosted by: Michael Such a darn busy day I forgot to post about the fact that legendary Director Sam Raimi has been tapped to direct the World of Warcraft movie according to Variety. The one really great aspect of the movie is that Legendary Pictures is working on the project. Who are they? They are the geniuses behind Superman and 300. Here is hoping the film kicks some SERIOUS as. The game developers also made it clear at BlizzCon that they want to make an epic film that everyone can enjoy, not just gamers. Blizzard Entertainment Inc. negotiated a deal with Legendary Pictures concerning the feature film development of Blizzard's popular "Warcraft" games. With popular game titles being turned into movies left and right, It seems likely that Blizzard would want to get in on the action. Luckily for us they have made a deal with a reputable company. Legendary Pictures is a division of the Warner Bros company and have been in charge of a few "notable" past and upcoming movies. "Batman Begins" and "Superman Returns" ring a few bells? Paul Sams, chief operating officer for Blizzard Entertainment touched on the topic recently."We searched for a very long time to find the right studio for developing a movie based on one of our game universes," said Sams. "Many companies approached us in the past, but it wasn't until we met with Legendary Pictures that we felt we'd found the perfect partner. They clearly share our high standards for creative development, and because they understand the vision that we've always strived for with our Warcraft games, we feel there isn't a better studio out there for bringing the Warcraft story to film." The game "Warcraft" takes place in the world of Azeroth. The war-like orcs have spilled out from the dark portal, infesting the land and threatening Humans and their allies. In the meantime a sinister force could potentially mean doom for both factions as it unleases an army of the undead upon them. It is a world of high fantasy, magic, monsters, and epic adventure.
The nice thing about "Warcraft" is that most of the hard stuff has already been done for the writers of the screenplay. The history of the world, the creature designs, and even many of the main characters have already been created in detail for them. Hopefully we won't have another "Dungeons and Dragons" on our hands where too much creativity (and a small budget) can be a bad thing.
Keep reading and we'll keep you posted on this project.
