Check out Ellen Page as a RollerGirl!

It seems to me that rollerderbys are popping up everywhere these days with rollergirl teams strapping on the wheels and yielding a superhero rollergirl name, they set off to neighbouring towns to prove their strength and rolling prowess.  I'm definitely not complaining about this new trend.

This is exactly what Drew Barrymore wants to depict in her directorial debut, Whip It, as she, Ellen Page and Kristen Wiig (SNL) play rebellious teens join the derby to rebel against their moms.  I'm sure there will be the usual ups and downs and tons of comedic relief from these 3 superstars as they journey to find themselves in the rollerderby.

Although Barrymore has producer credits already to her name (Charlie's Angels movies) she has decided to take the leap and take the seat directly behind the camera and direct this one.  The story of a young girl setting out to find herself and being pushed in many directions is quite similar to Barrymore's own life. 

"I felt pressures that everybody feels, whether it's inter-office, in high school or a small town," Barrymore says. "Everyone relates to expectations others have or what the world thinks. Who am I going to become? What am I going to be in this world?"
