Dreamworks Animation Movies Through 2012Posted by: Stark Dreamworks is a juggernaut of cool Animation movies. They've brought us titles like Shrek, Madagascar and Kung-Fu Panda (a personal fav). Today, Jeff Katzenberg, CEO of Dreamworks is expected to announce five new projects for Dreanworks as well as a handfull of sequels and spin-off movies for our enjoyment.
Variety also reports that all movies will be produced in 3-D!
Here are some of the highlights.
Robert Downey Jr. and Tina Fey lend their voices for a superhero themed pic, based on a script from Ben Stiller's Red Hour Films. Downer plays a supervillain who finds life boring after vanquising Metro-Man. Release Date is set for November 5, 2010.
How to Train Your Dragon
Set in the world of Dragons and Vikings, an awkward teen befriends an injured dragon. Voice credits by Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, America Ferrera and Johan Hill. Due out in 2010.
Shrek Forever After
The fourth installment of the Shrek series will also get launched during 2010, which makes that a very busy year! Dreamworks has also announced it will bump up their releases from their standard 2 per year to include a 3rd release every other year. This will allow them to put out more original content while still maintaining some of the franchise's that we so love!
Kung-Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom
Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman are already confirmed to return for this sequel. Panda will get a release of June 3, 2011.
The second movie slated for 2011 will be an original called The Guardians. Based on a yet to be released book by William Joyce, who also wrote "Meet the Robinsons" and "Rollie Pollie Ollie". Guardians will unite some of the most beloved children characters including Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, Jack Frost and Sandman against a Boogeyman type bad guy.
Puss in Boots
Yes, our favorite kitty from the Shrek franchise is getting his own movie! It will look at events that occur before his appearance in Shrek 2, introducing new characters to the universe, and giving him a love interest, played by the sultry Salma Hayek. Puss will hit the big screens March 30, 2012.
Madagascar 3 (not official title)
A couple of months after Puss, we will also get a third release for the zoo-break series Madagascar. I'm hoping the penguins are a big part of it! The animals will get relocated from Africa to Europe this time, thanks to a travelling circus.
Then, November 12, 2012 has been staked as the release for an original DWA movie that will be chosen from one of these three contenders.
1) The Croods: A Caveman comedy from directors Chris Sanders and Kirk DeMicco.
2) Truckers: Adapted from "The Bromeliad Trilogy" by Terry Pratchett, where a bunch of miniature characters are stuck living in a department store.
3) Super Secret Ghost Project: Will look at the life from the perspective of ghosts and reveal what they really think of humans.
All 3 of these projects are underway, but only one will win the 2012 release date, which will be determined later.
Sounds like some great offerings from Dreamworks, keep it here for more info on any and all of these releases!
