Buffy the Vampire Slayer is Back in Action!

Awesome news for all of you Buffy the Vampire fans out there, and I know that is alot of you! The director from the original 1992 movie is currently soliciting writers to pitch scripts for a relaunch of the original movie! At this point, Joss Whedon is not yet involved - you might wonder how that is possible since everything Buffy related seems to involve Whedon?! Fran Kuzui, the director for the original Buffy movie is the one who owns the rights to the franchise still to this day, which she obtained from the then unknown Joss Whedon. It's Kuzui who has teamed up with Vertigo Entertainment to start the ball rolling on this relaunch.
The relaunch will stay closer to the movie, and not the TV series. But the producers have indicated that they don't want to undo what Whedon and the TV series have done for the Buffy Universe. What this means is that some of your favorite TV characters won't be seen on the big screen (yet!). So no Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike on this round, but who knows what this could bring in the future.
The producers want to relaunch with a new generation of Vampire Slayer, updating for current times and bringing a darker version of the original movie. They are taking pitches from writers currently, and will then look for the new home for the Buffy movie that they hope will have franchise potential!
