J.J. Abrams Star Trek Needed More Lens Flares

Posted by: Michael

I hope those of you who saw Star Trek in theatres this week caught the sarcasm in the title of this article. I enjoyed Star Trek and thought it was a fun romp through Star Fleet with enough of the old and enough of the new to make it really fun. That said what on earth was up with all those lens flares? Everytime you turn around you had a light flaring up in your eyes and effectively disrupting the scene you are watching.

Within the first 10 minutes of the movie I was wondering if I could get some sun glasses to contend with the constant lens flares that were blinding the screen and blocking out what was going on in the movie. Frankly it was idiotic. Admittedly once I got over my anger and got another 15minutes into the film it seemed to get better.

Either that or I just got used to it and did not notice anymore. I loved the visuals and the feel of the new Star Trek but J.J. Abrams consistent need to blind me with a lens flare was a distraction and took away from an otherwise great film. So J.J.. please do us all a favor and tone it down in the Star Trek sequels which we know two of them are planned.
