5 Movies That Scared Me To Death as a Child

I have some pretty vivid memories of films that scared the hell out of as a child and many sleepless nights of laying really still and hoping that said 'terror' would not come flying out of my closet or out from under my bed. I wanted to take a minute and share 5 films that really scared me severely when I was a young kid watching films I was not old enough for and see what your thoughts were. Some will be pretty obvious and some might have you laughing. Like my first choice.

First on my list is Ghost Busters. This movie scared the living hell out of me when I was a kid. Forget Night of the Living Dead or DEMONS Ghost Busters is way scarier. The whole idea of a giant marshmallow man destroing Manhattan and ghosts floating around terrorizing the city literally had me petrified with fear. Worst of all I remember going to bed that night only to have our house cat attack my bed in the middle of the night making me run screaming for the hills. Ghostbusters without a doubt is the first film I remember scaring me very badly.

Next on my list is a much more respectable scare in Critters. Critters is another film that I watched well before I should have that effectively made me scared of anything small and furry which might shoot spikes at me or attempt to eat me. This would include a nocturnal fear of Hamsters and Raccoons. Critters was so damn scary I didnt even finish the film before I went to hide under my covers. This movie redefined the word scary for me when I was just a young lad.

Children of the Corn is the next in my series of bet wettingly scary moments. This movie was scary for one key factor.. its Children. Normally as kids we look to our parents for protection and althogh some kids get bullied we know our parents will keep us safe and happy. Or if not our parents, our friendly neighbour, the aunt, grandparents, etc. Children of the Corn was terrifying because the Children killed your loved ones and now were demonically controlling things. Needless to say I had a new found fear for the creepy kid that sat in the back of the class stabbing his arm with a pencil and murmuring.

Next up is a horror comedy that I love very much now and have watched no less then 20 times.. Tremors. When I was a kid this movie made me question walking across my lawn to get the newpaper for my parents or walking on anything other then pavement. Tremors of course is about the giant worm like critters that eat sheep, cars, sheds and people. Big... scary and the only thing that seemed to stop them was solid rock and paved concrete. So needless to say for quite some time I was not cutting across my neighbours lawn.

Last but certainly not least on my list is a movie that although it no longer scares me has a special place in my heart as one of the most creepy films  I have ever seen. The scariest element of this movie was its potential to be real unlike the movies above. The movie is none other then Silence of the Lambs. As a child this movie redefined my idea of 'bad man' and to this day still holds a special and creepy place in my heart.
