3D Gimmick Pays off for My Bloody Valentine

The gimmick of 3-D has proven to be more then just a gimmick. The film has gotten rave reviews from horror fans who are saying that it is a well assembled horror film that uses the 3-D technology to push the movie to new levels.

I am not an advocate for 3-D since all I can think of when I hear 3-D is those stupid colored glasses that give me a migraine headache. That said the new technology is supposed to be night and day better and even better.. headache proof.  MovieMaven who went to see the film this weekend had the following to say about the 3-D Technology;

The 3D was solid and fun to watch. Thanks to the Dolby innovations, you get much more than the usual pole-comin-atcha gag.  There is dimension added to every scene and sometimes I found myself feeling as I was there.  When a character come from the side it almost seems as if you could reach out and touch them.  If you have never seen a 3D film this is a good place to start. If you are a fan of 3D horror from back in the day this is a great place to keep the love flowin' along with the blood. You can of course expect a little cheese but for the most part it's no big deal.  ( entire review )

on HorrorMovies.ca GoldenSimatar wrote a fantastic review of My Bloody Valentine 3-D where he also hinted that the 3-D was really the way to see it encouraging people to pony up a few more dollars to experience it in 3-D. He even goes so far as to say to wait for it on dvd then to see it in 2-D.

One of the big reasons for seeing this film is that it is in 3D. Most of the 3D movies made since Disney introduced its RealD system haven’t really been 3D. All you have been getting are movies with greater depth of field without anything popping out at you. Now this isn’t old school cardboard glasses and crappy looking effects, this is the 21st Century with plastic glasses and much smoother effects. There isn’t the ‘reach out and touch’ aspect of old 3D, yet there is still stuff popping out at the screen.

Seeing Valentine in 2D just will not be the same experience, you might as well just wait for it to hit DVD. See it in 3D, it’s much more fun. Thankfully the 3D aspect isn’t used at every turn. You don’t have a 3D spitball coming at you or a doorknob. The 3D is saved for when the Miner attacks with his pick and with a few other spooks. That way it doesn’t become boring. ( entire review )

It would seem that despite nay sayers like myself My Bloody Valentine 3-D is a great demonstration of the new 3-D technology and something that all horror fans should get out and see. Positive reviews are pouring across the web for the film. As always feel free to contribute your own review of the film.
