It could be. A UK tabloid, "The Sun" claims to have the first picture of Johnny Depp as Willy Wonka. Here's the picture and see for yourself. I also added in a picture of Gene Wilder who played Mr. Wonka in the original "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, so you will be able to compare.

Tim Burtons version of this film, titled "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" is currently shooting at Pinewood Studios in England and is scheduled to be released July 15th, 2005. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory stars: Johnny Depp, Freddie Highmore, Helena Bonham Carter, David Kelly, Noah Taylor, James Fox, Missi Pyle, Christopher Lee, Jordan Fry, AnnaSophia Robb, Julia Winter and Philip Wiegratz.
