The Dark Knight Getting A Rerelease

The Dark Knight has already broken tons of box office records but it appears that Warner Bros. wants something else on their mantle. That is of course an Academy Award. Right now they are planning to bring The Dark Knight back to IMAX theaters in January to give people a friendly reminder that they think their movie rocks.

Well I'm not that big of a fan of the movie myself but I can't deny the immense popularity that the film has garnered. To date the film has pulled in an amazing $512 million domestically and another $440 internationally. That includes more than $55 million in IMAX showings alone. If they do manage to get some nominations I'm sure the box office numbers will climb even higher.

I'm not surprised one bit that they are going to rerelease the film but the difference here is that the film will already be on DVD if they still plan to release it in December. This will create an interesting test to see if people will actually go to the theater to see a great film on the big screen despite having it at home. We'll keep you informed if they plan on releasing it in conventional theaters as soon as we get word.
