Maple Pictures have acquired exclusive Canadian distribution rights to MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS, it was announced today by Co-President Laurie May.

Based on the 2005 non-fiction book by journalist Jon Ronson, MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS tells the story of a secret unit that was created within the US Army in 1979. By defying military practice, and the laws of physics, the unit tried to develop alternative ways of combating war.

The film will reunite GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK co-writers and Smoke House partners Grant Heslov and George Clooney. Heslov will helm and Clooney will star. Screenplay is by Peter Straughan. Producers include Smoke House, Paul Lister, and Allison Owen.  The screenplay was developed by BBC Films, and BBC Films and Momentum Pictures together acquired UK distribution rights. The film is being financed by Winchester Film Financing Company.

“We are thrilled to acquire this film as our entire creative team loved the script, which is politically interesting and hysterically funny,” said Laurie May. “We are proud to be associated with such highly respected teams and look forward to building a strong relationship.”
