Darren Aronofsky Reviving Robocop

For a little over a month it has been rumored that Darren Aronofsky would be directing the upcoming Robocop film. It has been no secret that they had been having meetings with him about the project and Mary Parent, head of MGM, has been very clear that they were going to revive Robocop. Today in THR it was made official that Aronofsky will direct from a script by David Self.

The original film focused on a mortally wounded cop in a futuristic, crime-ridden Detroit who returns to fight corruption in the guise of a tough-talking cyborg. They still have not clarified whether or not this will simply be a sequel or a remake. Since they say they are reviving it sounds more like a remake.

The budget for the film is going to be huge and around $100 million. So this will more than likely be seen sometime in the summer of 2010, the year they plan the film to be released in. So be sure to keep it here for more as we hear it.
