Scott Derickson talks The Day the Earth Stood Still

Remakes they really do a good job at pissing folks off in large. Everyone always starts off asking why? Scott Derickson the director of The Day the Earth Stood still remake really wanted to make the point that hes all about making a good movie and not just remaking something for the sake of doing it. He is promising that he is going to deliver an experience that brings not just the action but a deep moral story.  Assuming you want that. ComingSoon quotes him as having said;

"This film still has moments of great intimacy," he said. "If someone remade 'Casablanca,' I'd be upset. If someone remade 'The Wizard of Oz,' I wouldn't understand it. There were really good reasons to remake this film."

I gotta be honest I watched the trailer for the remake and that moral message sure was loud. The fact humanity has to be saved from itself. This could be a big explosive fun movie or it could be another The Happening. Time will tell. A sci-fi wonder of its time, "The Day the Earth Stood Still" featured an alien man named Klaatu who came to Earth with a robot named Gort prophesizing its demise if its people didn’t change their belligerent ways.
