Kung Fu Hustle Rumor Settling!

In an earlier news item ( Sad News for those waiting for Kung Fu Hustle ) we reported that the distribution of Kung Fu Hustle had gone into a questionable area because Miramax had picked it up. This all started when Huayi Brother's president, Wang Zhong Lei,  announced that Stephen Chows "Kung Fu Hustle" is no longer being distributed by Columbia Pictures. Unfortunately Miramax has now bought the rights to the film. He also went on to say "

...and Miramax has promised us that it will be released nationwide, rather than in arthouse theatres only."

My contact at Sony Classics emailed me over the weekend to let me know that this is not true. The source KFCinema had their facts a bit mixed up it would seem.  So to put it mildly, when Sony was asked about this rumor of Mirmax handling the film the answer was, and I quote

"No, Abosolutely Not"

As far as they know and are concerned they are still handling the domestic release through Sony Classics. Which is a great thing since Sony Classics is a great company putting out great movies.
