Paul Bettany Joins Legion

Variety reports that Paul Bettany has just joined Sony Screen Gems thriller Legion. Scott Stewart will make his directoral debut with a script he co-wrote with Peter Schink. An interesting tidbit is that Stewart co-founded the Orphanage visual FX house. The Orphanage has done work on a number of fantastic films like Grindhouse, The Host and Sin City just to name a few.

Legion follows what happens when God loses faith in humanity and sends his legion of angels to wipe out the human race for the second time. Mankind's only hope lies in a group of misfits holed up in a diner in the desert who are aided by the archangel Michael (Bettany).

Finally! We got something original that already has my pulse going. This really sounds like a bad ass idea with The Orphanage on board this is going to be a visual feast. But Screen Gem's co-president said thats not really why they picked up the project, "I was so impressed with his rewrite that I took the meeting with him, and his visual presentation closed the deal. I'm sure he had the same impact on Paul." So a good script and some solid visuals to back it up. I'm there. Production begins in March in New Mexico.
