Alexandre Aja's Piranha Remake In 3-D!

Posted by: Luke

It seems that everyone is making their films in 3-D these days. Look at Toy Story, Spy Kids and even the upcoming Final Destination 4 are all 3D films. Not long ago it was announced that theaters all over the U.S. have been getting ready for this type of move and have already began working on their projectors. Thats good news for Aja.

Shock Til You Drop just received word that Alexandre Aja (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes) will direct his next picture, Piranha, in 3-D. Now usually I am totally against a remake but the original Joe Dante film is not exactly classic and it is a totally different approach to make it in 3-D. Dimension has also decided to treat this film with a lot of respect and set it's release date on July 24th, 2009.

Now I think releasing the film in the summer is a very bad idea. Horror does not do well in the summer and it never has. However there are some exceptions but it doesn't happen often. But I can already see the release date moving quite a bit since Dimension is handling it.

The remake is written by Aja and Josh Stolberg. The story goes that a tremor causes Arizona's Lake Havasu floor to open, setting free scores of prehistoric piranhas.
