Del Toro Not Signed To Direct The Hobbit?

Rumors have been flying all over the place about who will direct The Hobbit. For a short time Sam Raimi was in the running but then he decided to return to his roots to direct Drag Me Down to Hell. Recently however it seemed that all the rumors were cleared up and Guillermo del Toro was going to direct The Hobbit. Well word is he might not!

TotalFilm.com talked to del Toro and he told the site, “Well, the reality is that the Hobbit story has broken early because the negotiations have not ended and The Hobbit is not a sure thing.” He went on to say, “I think what happens very often is that these rumours have a way of becoming real or not. I don't expect The Hobbit to be troublesome. But you know, then again, it may never happen... or it may!”

Make no mistake however del Toro went on to say that he would "LOVE" to direct the film. I am a huge del Toro fan and honestly I would like to see him do something original. The man has such a brilliant mind and I would love to see what insane ideas he has bouncing around in his own mind. Once we hear official word about The Hobbit however we will let you know.
