Y: The Last Man Cast and Possible Trilogy?

Posted by: Goon

USA Today recently did a news piece revealing quite few details about the comic adaptation of Y: The Last Man that was published by DC's Vertigo label. I never had much interest in the comic myself but I know that it has a strong following and in a very unusual move DC is ending the comic at issue 60 in stores now.

The Director of the project told the paper that he has been in "preliminary discussions" with Shia LaBeouf about playing the title character Yorick. I would have to say that would be a bit of great casting. Not only are they familiar working together having done Disturbia and now Eagle Eye together but he looks the part.

"For me, thematically, the most important thing and the reason I want to do this is … I don't want to say it's the end of the innocence, but it's actually a man-child who has to become a real man now," Caruso tells USA Today. "I think it's a really simple, beautiful theme, but at the same time, the movie's really pop-culture entertainment."

The original plan was going to be that they squeeze the entire series into one film. But even someone off the street could tell you that is a bad idea with 60 comics. So they have now decided to make the first film from the first 14 issues to leave it open for a possible triology. Carl Ellsworth will be the man who will be adapting the comics into a screenplay. But until that writers strike ends, we won't be seeing anything about this film for awhile.
