Paramount Vantage received 19 Academy Award® nominations today from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Four of the Studio's 2007 feature films were honored by the Academy: Paul Thomas Anderson’s THERE WILL BE BLOOD, a Paramount Vantage and Miramax co-production, received eight nominations; The Coen Brothers’ NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, also a Miramax and Paramount Vantage co-production, received eight nominations; Sean Penn’s INTO THE WILDearned two nominations; THE KITE RUNNER(a Paramount Classics release)garnered one nomination.

Nominations for THERE WILL BE BLOOD included best motion picture of the year, achievement in directing, best performance by an actor in a leading role, achievement in art direction, achievement in cinematography, achievement in film editing, achievement in sound editing and adapted screenplay. This is Paul Thomas Anderson’s first nomination as a director and producer. He was previously nominated as a screenwriter for BOOGIE NIGHTS and MAGNOLIA. This is Daniel Day-Lewis’ fourth Oscar® nomination; he won the award in 1990 for his performance in MY LEFT FOOT. The film has received numerous awards including Best Picture of the Year from Los Angeles Film Critcs Association, Best Picture from the Critics’ Choice Awards and a Golden Globe award for Best performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture Drama for Day-Lewis.
NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN nominations included best motion picture of the year, achievement in directing, best performance by an actor in a supporting role, achievement in cinematography, achievement in film editing, achievement in sound editing, achievement in sound mixing and adapted screenplay. The Coens previously won Oscars® for writing FARGO.
INTO THE WILD received two nominations for best performance by an actor in a supporting role and achievement in film editing. This is the first nomination for Hal Holbrook.
THE KITE RUNNER received a nomination for achievement in music written for motion pictures for Alberto Iglesias’ moving original score.
