Stephen Chow to Play Mr. Myiagi?

A few days ago PuppetMaster filled you in on the possible remake of The Karate Kid. At that time their were some production notes that have been going around that state Will Smith as the director with his young son, Jaden Smith starring. Well since then it appears that things may have changed.

According to CRIEnglish during the I Am Legend premiere in Asia, Will Smith spoke with actor/director Stephen Chow. Will Smith has been shepherding the project and apparently asked the star if he would direct the film and star as Mr. Myiagi. Now the reasons behind this could be many but word is that Smith chose Chow because he thourghly enjoyed his work on Kung Fu Hustle and his newest film CJ7.

Chow has said to the media, "I'm very fond of 'The Karate Kid' and would love to join in the remake project, no matter as a producer, director or actor. But it depends on my schedule. As you know, next year I will work on two movies, 'Dragon Ball' and 'Journey to the West.'"

So for now we are really not sure who will be directing The Karate Kid remake but you can bet that Will Smith is involved. Once we get some official word we will pass the info along to you readers..
