Land of the Dead Info and Pittsburgh Haunted Attractions!

In a recent interview with a local Pittsburgh newspaper, Tom Savini talked in length about his horror attraction 'Tom Savini's Horrormania' and also gave some information on his role in Land of the Dead.

In regards to the horror attraction it apparently is something that Tom has taken a great deal of pride in and it sounds as though he and his 130 students have had fun working on.

"I get the urge every now and then to scare people.  Whether it's the kids outside, or my students at my school, or girlfriends at my house -- I'm scaring people all the time.  I got my whole school involved -- that's 130 students from my special effects and makeup school," Savini says. "Visually, the place is stunning, and there's 30 actors in there. It's in like an abandoned Kmart. It's not really a haunted house, it's a horror theme park."

I really like his philosophy when it comes to the whole 'haunted house' premise.  He talks about how you have to scare everyone, even those people who walk into the 'haunted house' LOOKING for what is going to scare them (which I am guilty of I'll admit!).

"I know that when people walk into a haunted house, they're automatically looking for what's going to scare them.  We supply what they think will scare them -- but then the real scare comes out of nowhere, which is the best kind of scare possible. When the audience is in that relaxed state, that's the time to hit 'em hard. That's the worst kind of scare."

Now you may remember a while back we posted a news report saying that Tom Savini was not going to have a role in Land of the Dead.  Apparently Tom didn't get that memo as he talked at length about what his role, which was offered to him by long time friend George Romero, may encompass.

"I really don't know what the role is.  They hired John Leguizamo as Cholo, and when I read it, I imagined him in the part. Then suddenly, he's in it. If I play the role George offered me ...I'll play like his protector or right-hand man. There's a lot of action, there's a lot of zombies. There's a whole new twist on the zombie plague. I don't know how much I'm allowed to say."
