Posted by:With the upcoming release of a cast of marrionettes in "Team America World Police", I couldn't help but relive Peter Jackon's puppet gem "Meet the Feebles".
Here's the deal: A troup of puppets are getting ready to perform their premiere TV variety hour. The rehersals are full of tension and all hell breaks loose both onstage and off.
Why it works: Jackson creates a world full of personalities that show what really goes on behind the scenes. Drugs, romance, blackmail, innocence lost, pornography, manipulation, and sex are only a few of the topics seen here.
The story is rich and well plotted, and character development is always underway. This film is fun because of it's feverish pace, non-stopping shock value, and ability to out-do itself over and over. The editing is brilliant.
The only complaints about this film are the technical issues. It is very darkly lit in an attempt to hide strings and sticks used in puppeteering no doubt, however, these manipulators still fall into the frame time and time again. The sound is not rock solid, and at times abrasive. Not a "pretty picture".
Regardless of technical issues, this is a must see for all Peter Jackson fans and just about anyone who enjoys a very good bizarre and unique film.
