The 2007 Kansai International Film Festival

We just got word on a brand new film Festival happening in Japan. Kansai International Film Festival (KIFF) is the first festival in Japan to feature Japanese films made by westerners. The goal of the festival is to bring attention to these creative films and create an international event that can bring both Japanese and people from around the world together, creating a more international community and helping film flourish in Kansai.

KIFF is a new film festival featuring a different spin on Japanese films, mixing both the east and west in cinema. Most people know of recent Hollywood films about Japan such as The Last Samurai, Lost In Translation and Memoirs of a Geisha, but few are aware that there are dozens of independent films made by western directors all over the world that focus on Japan and its culture. An even less known fact is that there are a handful of western directors living in Kansai (and Tokyo) dedicating themselves to their passion of showing the world the intricacies of Japan through film. Other filmmakers around the world have recreated Japan at home for their films

KIFF has gathered these films from around the globe and will be screening them at a 3 day event. So come escape the heat at this free event watching the first gathering of international directors' films in Japan! Learn more about the festival at: http://www.kansaifilm.com
